Why Keystone

We didn't set out to build software.

We set out to run a better letting agency. Keystone is what that took.

The origin

Built because the alternative kept getting in the way

The CRM we were paying for was built for the general shape of a letting agency, not the actual detail of running one. Every workaround, every spreadsheet running alongside the “proper” system, every deadline tracked in someone's head instead of the software — that's the tax you pay for generic software.

So instead of switching to another system built the same way, we built our own — designed around the Renters’ Rights Act from the outset, not adapted afterwards, and built so that someone with limited experience can't accidentally skip a compliance step just to get a tenancy agreement out the door.

What we believe

The philosophy behind every decision

01

Nobody should have to chase an update

A landlord shouldn't need to ring up to find out what's happening with their own property. A tenant shouldn't be left guessing about their own application. Being informed shouldn't be something you have to ask for.

02

One system, not an ecosystem

We wanted to avoid the trap of monopoly software that locks an agency into an ecosystem of paid add-ons with no real way out. Keystone does the core of the job itself — tenancies, compliance, communication, admin — as one system.

03

Compliance that can't be skipped by accident

The Renters’ Rights Act raised the cost of getting it wrong. Keystone is built so the compliant way is the only way through — not a box someone can tick without actually doing the check.

04

Eliminate the admin that adds nothing

Every hour spent on paperwork that doesn't actually serve a landlord or tenant is an hour not spent on the parts of the job that do. That's the whole reason automation belongs in this software at all.

“The independent letting agent is the backbone of this market. We think it'll be the part of the industry that prospers when the rest automate themselves into something nobody trusts.”
